Gerald Jenkins

Photographer Gerald Jenkins has long identified as an outsider, and his vast oeuvre reflects his natural affiliation with others who sit similarly at the fringes.

His photographic subjects bring their own powerful identities to bear on his work, and Jenkins’ ever-evolving artistic process reflects their varied contributions to his ongoing study of the tension between Western capitalism and ancient spirituality.

In 2019, he published his first book with themes of ‘Afrofuturism’ and ‘Afrosurrealism’ titled It's After The End of the World, (ART YARD) featuring contributions from Sun Ra, Darius James, KainthePoet, Norman Douglas, Michael Gonzales, Jake-ann Jones, Little Annie and Carl Martin.

There are six other book titles currently in process and he has exhibited on numerous occasions internationally. His portraits have been acquired by institutions including ‘The National Portrait Gallery’ in London and the ‘Performing Arts Centre’ in Melbourne.

Jenkins career began as an editorial photographer working for titles, Vogue, Vanity Fair, i.D. , Esquire and Domus among others. He has worked in Cinema and lived in four countries.
